| Oh praise thee lord...Fall is coming!!! x) Thats right...we've been feeling the chilly winds, and the breezy air on our skin these past few days and it is positively LOVELY...a preview for the weather to come. Honestly, I cannot wait for the onset of WINTER.... the cold brisk air...the soft white snow.....the snowboarding trips we'll be making!! YESS YES YESS!! I believe you are now witnessing a wintergasm. YOWZA!! I am sooo done with the hot, sweaty, stinky summer. Its time for the obliteration of those nasty little bugs...bring it on frosty mama!!! *take note of my chilly background*
I'm moving back to Stony next Monday...hooray...I really can't believe its my freakin senior year...I'm OLD!!! 1988's will be swarming the campus..holy beefsteaks...madness I tell you!! I'm kind of feeling eh about it. Maybe its the fact that I'm a little bit bored of Stony, but I still love the place to death....or rather the people that are in it. Its kind of a ying-yang situation.
Being a senior in college is nothing like being a senior in high school. In H.S. you kinda feel like you own the school..walking around the hallways whenever you want, saying hi to everyone you know...chillin in your counselers office like a bigshot as if you own the place. You know the school like the back of your hand...and you could probably avoid a nasty run-in with any teacher you dislike cuz you know all the shortcuts/nooks and crannies of the building. - Not anymore. When you're a senior in college...you start to feel like LESS of a bigshot...in fact...so many of the people you knew on campus have now graduated, or transferred out...or godforbid...dropped out. And theres this HUGE influx of freshman...and you can always point them out because they're the ones asking the bus driver "does this bus take me to tabler/hand?" or they're walking in circles around the Javits center looking for a classroom...or once in a while you see them throwing casual side glances at the big map in front of the SAC trying not to make it look like they're totally lost, when in fact they dont know where the fuck they are.
- Meanwhile being that I am a senior...I'm too embarrassed to ask the bus driver if this bus takes me left or right out of the SAC loop b/c godforbid I look like some freshman..but shame on me for not knowing in the first place.
SOOO...I just get on the bus and pray really hard that it does take to me to where I want to go, or else I'll end up at the South P Parking lot like I did two years ago.
- ANDD not only have all your friends left...(not to mention my roomate for 3 years!!!
) Stony Brook looooveeessss to cater to the freshman...so heres the skinny: upon entering freshman orientation, freshies receive a whole bunch of Stony Brook junk (like a bag, a red hat) that they can use around campus. (who knows what they'll be giving away for free this year....apparently they up the giveaway loot with each passing year...unfortunately I wasn't apart of that gift-giving era of Stony and i ended with you guess it....jack shit.) Freshman get their whole first semester planned out for them by a caring, loving, compassionate counseler (I didn't get that as a freshman...and that fucked up my whole plan up nicely). Not only that, but they are supplied with a crew known as "Welcome Wagon"...(a.k.a. Upperclassman who wish to move in early, but in order to do so, must help the freshies shlep all their shit into their dorms first...while dealing with whiny overconcerned parents.)
- As one advances in college, classes get harder, and one also begins to realize the importance of getting good grades...thus, as the years go by, there is less hanging out, and more chill time in the library with Mr. and Mrs.Textbook. So by the time senior year comes along, your really paddling chin-high in your studies with almost no time for fun.
- HS seniors on the other hand get the luxury of a shorter day, where they're allowed to return home anytime between 11AM and 2PM (if you reallllyyy wish to stay that long)...and towards the end of the year, once you've been accepted to a university...who the fuck cares about whether you go to class or not??? You're in!!! Its over! Thus....more chill time with the amigos!! Its smooth sailing 4 the rest of the year...
...Not to mention a big party (a.k.a. Prom) to end the senior sendoff with a bang.
- College seniors get no such fiesta. Plus, walking at graduation is even optional. I glorify in the graduation walk! That shouldn't be optional!...it should be mandatory!! I want my future kids to see pics of me in all my cap n' gowned glory as I strut my way down the aisle, diploma in hand.
I'm not bitter. I'm just driving my point home.
In short, I return to my original thesis statement: Being a senior in college is nothing like being a senior in high school.
btw...
RUSH RUSH RUSHH!
Truth be told, this was supposed to be a short entry...how it turned into a novel I do not know. I must feel pretty passionate about this subject. Thank you for reading this if you did..=) xoxo!
